Nairobi, Kenya — February 6, 2026
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has appointed Dennis Gicheru as its Acting General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, with the changes taking effect immediately.
In an official communication released on Thursday, FKF said Gicheru will hold the position on an interim basis as the federation prepares to advertise and fill the role substantively.
Gicheru previously served as Head of Legal Affairs at FKF, where he oversaw matters relating to governance, disciplinary processes, and the federation’s legal engagements, including investigations into match manipulation cases.
The federation noted that the appointment is intended to ensure continuity in its administrative operations as it transitions to new leadership at the executive level.
Background and Experience
Beyond his legal and administrative experience, Gicheru is also a former footballer. He later ventured into football management and previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the now-defunct Wazito FC.
His appointment places him at the helm of FKF’s secretariat during a period of restructuring within the federation.
Change in Leadership
Gicheru takes over from Harold Ndege, a former Tusker FC player who had been serving in the role for approximately one year. Ndege’s tenure was marked by internal disagreements, including a public fallout with FKF President Hussein Mohammed.
The federation leadership has not issued further details regarding Ndege’s exit but confirmed that the acting appointment is effective immediately.
FKF said further communication will be issued once the process to recruit a substantive General Secretary and CEO is concluded.
