Vipingo Robbery Investigation: Six Arrested and Later Taken to Court

Police arrested six people in Vipingo, Kilifi County, during an investigation into a violent robbery and burglary reported in Mtwapa on January 28, 2026. Police accounts said officers recovered phones, identity cards, weapons, cannabis and cash from two locations. Those items and the alleged links to the robbery were investigative claims, not findings of guilt.
What police reported recovering
Three of the suspects—Mustafa Majeza Juma, Bubbline Kitsao Kazungu and Abdul Mwatondo Matano—were arrested at a residence in Vipingo, according to the police account. Officers said they recovered six mobile phones, eight identity cards bearing different names, two Somali swords, two pangas and a cash-bail receipt. Police said the receipt related to a separate attempted-robbery case with an outstanding warrant.
Police said information from the first arrests led them to a second location, where Swale Mwarauka, Mohammed Juma and Hamisi Rama were arrested. Officers reported finding 18 large rolls of cannabis, a weighing scale and KSh7,000 there. The police described the money as suspected proceeds of crime; that description had not been tested in court in the initial reports.
Court stage reported afterward
Citizen Digital’s February 7 account said the six were taken to Mtwapa Police Station while detectives sought more time to investigate. A later report by TV47 said all six were arraigned and that detectives obtained 14-day custodial orders. Such an investigation order allows time for inquiries; it is not a conviction or a finding that the suspects committed the robbery.
