Shujaa Win Bronze as Kenya Lionesses Finish Fifth at Nairobi HSBC SVNS 2

Kenya’s men’s rugby sevens team, Shujaa, finished third at the opening leg of HSBC SVNS 2 at Nyayo National Stadium in February 2026. The Kenya Lionesses placed fifth in the women’s competition.
Shujaa’s Nairobi results
- Kenya won four of its five matches, beating Uruguay, Belgium, Germany and Canada.
- The team’s only loss was 21-5 to the United States.
- George Ooro was named men’s player of the tournament.
In the women’s event, the Lionesses won one match and lost four. Argentina won the title, with South Africa second and Spain third.
How the Nairobi result fit the season
Nairobi was the first of three HSBC SVNS 2 tournaments, followed by Montevideo and São Paulo. The series ended with Kenya among the four men’s teams—alongside Germany, Uruguay and the United States—that advanced to the end-of-season HSBC SVNS World Championship.
That later qualification gives the Nairobi bronze useful context: the home leg was an opening result in a three-tournament race, not the final ranking for the season.
