Kenya Weather Forecast: Rain Expected in 32 Counties Through October 5
Rainfall is expected in parts of 32 counties across Kenya between September 29 and October 5, 2026, according to the latest seven-day outlook from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The forecast comes as the country transitions into October, a period closely watched by farmers, transport operators and households because of changing rainfall patterns in several regions.
Counties Where Rain Is Expected
The weekly outlook indicates that rainfall is likely in parts of Lamu, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Embu, Garissa, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Kitui, Laikipia, Machakos, Makueni, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira and Wajir.
Conditions will not be identical across all of the listed counties. Some areas may receive isolated showers while others could experience more sustained rainfall, depending on local weather systems and elevation.
Why the Forecast Matters
For farmers, the outlook is important for planning land preparation, planting, spraying and harvesting. Rain can also affect road conditions, especially on unpaved rural routes and in areas where drainage is limited.
Residents in urban areas such as Nairobi should also remain alert to short periods of heavy rain that can cause temporary flooding in low-lying locations and along roads with poor drainage.
Recent Rainfall Across Kenya
The latest outlook follows rainfall recorded in several parts of the country during the previous week. Reported rainfall affected areas including Bungoma, Busia, Migori, Siaya, Nyamira, Kakamega, Kisii, Nakuru and Kericho.
Kenya’s weather can vary significantly over short distances, so a national forecast should be used together with county-level updates. The Kenya Meteorological Department publishes local forecasts that give more detailed information for individual counties.
What Residents Should Do
- Check county-specific forecasts before travelling or carrying out outdoor work.
- Farmers should use local agro-weather advisories when making planting and input decisions.
- Motorists should exercise caution during heavy rainfall, particularly on roads prone to flooding or reduced visibility.
- Residents in flood-prone areas should keep drainage channels clear and avoid crossing fast-moving water.
October–December Season Remains Important
Meteorologists continue to monitor ocean and atmospheric conditions that could influence rainfall during the October–December season, one of the country’s important rainfall periods.
Because seasonal conditions can change, residents are encouraged to rely on updated forecasts rather than assuming rainfall will be uniform throughout the three-month period.
