Kariobangi Sharks–Mombasa United Playoff Abandoned; FKF Review Pending
The second leg of the Kariobangi Sharks–Mombasa United promotion and relegation playoff was abandoned at Ulinzi Sports Complex on October 6, 2026, after a penalty awarded to Mombasa United prompted protests and some supporters entered the pitch. The referee was escorted away and play did not resume.
Sharks were leading 2–1 in the match when it stopped. Mombasa United had won the first leg 2–1, leaving the aggregate score level at 3–3 at the time of abandonment, according to The Star’s match report.
FKF review was still pending on October 9
Football Kenya Federation said its Leagues and Competitions Committee would review reports from the clubs, match officials, security personnel and CAF safety officials before summoning the teams and deciding the outcome. The committee’s chair told The Star that the unresolved playoff would not delay the start of the new league season, scheduled for October 9.
Until FKF issues its decision, the match has no confirmed sporting outcome. The next step could only be stated after the federation’s review; this report does not assume a replay, resumption or forfeiture.
