Kenya Police Explain Muyoti and Baraza Exit After Poor League Start

NAIROBI, Thursday, October 22, 2026 — Kenya Police FC have defended their decision to release head coach Nicholas Muyoti and assistant John Baraza just two matches into the new Premier League season, insisting the pair were not sacked.

The club confirmed the departures on Wednesday, a day after a 2–1 defeat to AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium. Police had earlier drawn 1–1 with promoted Migori Youth.

In its statement, Kenya Police said both coaches had asked to pursue CAF A coaching qualifications, having joined the club with an understanding that they would be allowed to further their studies when an opportunity arose.

Technical director Mbarak Bashatir subsequently rejected reports that the two had been dismissed because of the results. Both coaches already hold CAF B licences.

The explanation came amid speculation over the timing of the changes. Police won the Kenyan league title in the 2024/25 season and finished third last term under Muyoti, leaving expectations high as the current campaign began.

The club has not yet announced a replacement. It says details of the new technical arrangements will be communicated later.

For now, Kenya Police must prepare for their next fixtures without the coaching pair who oversaw their recent campaign, while questions remain over how quickly a new bench can settle in.
