Eldoret Hosts Final Mashujaa Day Rehearsal as Security Chiefs Review Preparations

ELDORET, October 14, 2026 — Senior security officials attended a full-dress rehearsal at Kipchoge Keino Stadium on Wednesday as preparations intensified for the national Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat joined Chief of the Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli at the venue, according to KBC.

Eldoret will host the national event, with Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo-Marakwet counties jointly involved in the celebrations. The rehearsal forms part of operational preparations for the public ceremony, rather than confirmation that every aspect of the event programme has been finalised.

Security, sport and the economy

The build-up includes a thematic exhibition at Eldoret National Polytechnic running from October 13 to 18. Organisers are using the programme to highlight the links between public safety, sporting activity and economic development in the North Rift.

Omollo said improved security in parts of the region had supported the return of children to school and the reopening of economic activity. He also referred to the recovery of more than 3,000 illegal firearms through community cooperation and surrender efforts. Those figures and assessments were presented by the government and have not been independently audited for this report.

Lagat, speaking on behalf of Inspector General Douglas Kanja, emphasised continued cooperation between police and communities. Police officials also called for joint responsibility in protecting lives and property as large crowds are expected for the celebrations.

What visitors should check

People intending to attend Mashujaa Day activities should watch for official guidance on stadium entry, transport, road access and security screening. Such arrangements can change as organisers finalise crowd-management plans.

With Eldoret hosting a national celebration, businesses and transport operators may see increased activity, although the scale of any economic benefit will depend on visitor numbers and local spending. The rehearsal confirms preparations are underway, not the eventual attendance or commercial outcome.
