Anne Juuko Begins Tenure as East African Development Bank Director General
Anne Juuko became Director General of the East African Development Bank (EADB) on October 2, 2026, after appointment by the bank’s Governing Council. The council also adopted reforms intended to improve the bank’s performance.
Juuko’s banking experience
Juuko joins EADB from Standard Bank Group, where she was Regional Head of Global Markets for Eastern Africa. Her previous roles include CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Standard Bank Namibia, and senior positions at Citibank in Kenya and Uganda.
EADB’s reported 2025 results
The bank reported that its 2025 profit before tax increased 51% and loan disbursements rose 140%. It also retained investment-grade ratings of A from S&P Global and Baa3 from Moody’s, both with stable outlooks. These are figures reported by EADB; they describe the bank’s performance and do not by themselves show how much funding reached Kenyan borrowers.
What Juuko says she will focus on
In her appointment statement, Juuko said her priorities are to deepen EADB’s development-finance role, find new sources of long-term capital and build strategic partnerships. Those priorities point to the areas to watch in future bank announcements: financing programmes, capital-raising plans and projects in member states, including Kenya.
Benard P. Mono, who served as Acting Director General, has returned to his role as Senior Director of Finance and Treasury, according to EADB.
