Albert Ojwang Murder Trial: CCTV Evidence and What the Court Heard

The murder trial of six people accused in connection with Albert Ojwang’s death opened at the Kibera High Court in July 2026. Ojwang died in police custody in June 2025. During the trial, a CCTV technician told the court that the recorder at Central Police Station had been formatted, while prosecutors allege surveillance evidence was interfered with after his death.

What the CCTV evidence can and cannot show

Reporting from the opening of the trial said prosecutors presented CCTV footage tracking movements around the station and hospital. The prosecution also told the court that footage from the station’s recorder had been erased or formatted. The court has to assess witness testimony and exhibits; these are not final findings of guilt against the accused.

The case is ongoing. Reports said proceedings were adjourned to December 14, 2026. A scheduled hearing is not a verdict, and the accused remain entitled to the presumption of innocence unless convicted.
