Faith Cherotich and Emmanuel Wanyonyi Set Meeting Records in Brussels

Kenyan runners Faith Cherotich and Emmanuel Wanyonyi won their events at the 2026 Allianz Memorial Van Damme, the Diamond League Final held in Brussels on September 4–5. Both victories set meeting records, according to World Athletics.
Cherotich wins the 3,000m steeplechase
Cherotich won the women’s 3,000m steeplechase in 8:51.61, a meeting record. Kenya’s Doris Lemngole finished second, making it a Kenyan one-two. The official World Athletics report described Cherotich as pulling clear in the home straight.
Wanyonyi takes the 800m title
Wanyonyi won the men’s 800m in 1:41.80, also a meeting record. World Athletics reported that it was his fourth consecutive Diamond League title in the event.
Why these results matter
The Diamond League Final decides the season’s event champions. Meeting records describe the best performance recorded at that specific competition; they are not world records.
