John Wanyama Resigns from Citizen TV to Vie for Malava MP Seat

After nearly eleven years behind the camera and microphone, John Wanyama has traded his press badge for a campaign trail. The veteran reporter, long a familiar face and voice covering the North Rift region for Royal Media Services’ Citizen TV, has officially resigned from the station to pursue the Member of Parliament seat for Malava Constituency.

John Wanyama’s Career at Citizen TV

Wanyama joined Royal Media Services on 1st September 2015 and rose through the ranks to become a Reporter and Camera Person based in the station’s Eldoret bureau. Over the better part of a decade, he built a reputation as a dependable presence on stories emerging from the North Rift, covering everything from community affairs to breaking regional news for one of Kenya’s most-watched broadcasters.

His departure was formalized through a resignation letter dated 3rd July 2026, addressed to the Human Resource Department at Royal Media Services’ Nairobi headquarters. In it, Wanyama described his decision as the start of “an exciting new chapter,” explaining that he was stepping away from journalism “to pursue a new path in public service by vying for the position of Member of Parliament for Malava Constituency.”

Why John Wanyama Resigned from Royal Media Services

The resignation was accepted without friction. In a letter dated 14th July 2026, Royal Media Services’ Human Resources Director, Rose Wanjohi, confirmed the terms of his exit, setting his last working day as 4th August 2026 and outlining the standard clearance process handover reports, an exit questionnaire, and settlement of any outstanding liabilities before his terminal leave began.

Royal Media Services subsequently issued Wanyama a Certificate of Service on 25th August 2026, signed by Human Resources Manager Phillip Owenga, formally confirming his tenure at the company from September 2015 to August 2026 in the role of Reporter/Camera Person, Eldoret.

Gratitude on the Way Out

Wanyama’s resignation letter struck a reflective tone, thanking colleagues and management for a tenure he called “rewarding and fulfilling.” He singled out Royal Media Services’ Chairman and Vice Chair, Mr. and Mrs. S.K. Macharia, along with Managing Director Wachira Waruru, for what he described as their “visionary leadership and mentorship” during his time at the company. He also pledged a smooth handover, committing to complete pending assignments and return all company equipment before his exit.

With his broadcasting career now behind him, Wanyama turns his focus to Malava Constituency, where he will be seeking to represent the community as its next Member of Parliament. His years spent telling other people’s stories across the North Rift now give way to a campaign built on his own — one aimed at translating a journalist’s eye for community issues into a seat in Parliament.
