National Police Leadership Academy Hosts Eastern Africa Standby Force in Ngong

The National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA) in Ngong yesterday hosted a delegation from the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation in peace operations training.

The delegation was led by Mr. Allan Riis, SP, Senior Advisor to the EASF Police Component from Denmark. He was accompanied by Mr. Stephen Odula, SP, EASF Personnel and Administration Officer, and Ms. Frida Mungania, Administration Assistant, among other officials.

They were received by the Commandant of NPLA, AIG David K. Mathiu, alongside members of the academy’s senior management team.

Purpose of the Visit

The visit aimed to explore areas of potential collaboration in peace operations training, including the certification of NPLA as an EASF-accredited police training centre in Kenya.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, the Commandant acknowledged the critical support extended by EASF. He highlighted that many Kenyan police officers have benefited from specialized training programmes offered by the regional organisation.

“We appreciate the partnership with the EASF, which has enhanced the capacity of our officers in peace support and security operations across the region,” said AIG Mathiu.

About the Eastern Africa Standby Force

The Eastern Africa Standby Force is a regional organisation mandated to enhance peace and security in Eastern Africa. Established as a regional mechanism, the EASF provides rapid deployment capabilities to carry out:

  • Preventive deployments

  • Rapid intervention

  • Peace support or stability operations

  • Peace enforcement

The collaboration between NPLA and EASF is expected to strengthen Kenya’s role in regional peacekeeping and ensure that police officers are equipped with the latest skills and training required for effective peace operations.
