Aisha Jumwa Leaves UDA, Joins Wiper and Maintains 2027 Kilifi Bid

Aisha Jumwa announced on July 30, 2026 that she was leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and intended to contest the Kilifi governor seat in 2027. She joined the Wiper Patriotic Front in August. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka publicly backed her for the Kilifi race and proposed her for a senior party role; the proposal for deputy party leader was reported as subject to party deliberations.
What Jumwa said when leaving UDA
At a press conference in Malindi, Jumwa said she had decided to resign after consultations and described her bid to run for Kilifi governor as a central issue. Her move to Wiper
On August 14, Wiper welcomed Jumwa into the party. Kalonzo said he would propose her for deputy party leader and indicated the party would deliberate before a formal announcement. The Standard reported that Wiper had backed her for the Kilifi governor race. These are party and campaign developments, not an IEBC certification of a final 2027 candidate list.
What is confirmed about the 2027 bid
Jumwa has publicly said she intends to contest for Kilifi governor. She is the former Malindi MP and served as Gender Cabinet Secretary before leaving Cabinet in 2024. The current governor, Gideon Mung’aro, was elected in 2022. Party nominations and the official candidate list remain future steps; a public declaration or party endorsement is not the same as final nomination and registration.
