Junior Starlets Face USA Tonight Seeking First Win at U-17 World Cup

NAIROBI, Thursday, October 22, 2026 — Kenya’s Junior Starlets return to the pitch tonight knowing another defeat could leave their hopes of advancing from the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup hanging by a thread.

Coach Mildred Cheche’s side face the United States at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Morocco at 9pm East African Time, three days after losing 3-0 to China in their Group E opener.

The result against China has left Kenya needing a response before their final group match against Samoa on Sunday, October 25.

Kenya qualified for the tournament after beating South Africa 5-1 on aggregate and are appearing at the global championship for the second time, having made their debut in 2024.

The Junior Starlets squad includes players drawn from schools and women’s football teams across Kenya, including Wiyeta Girls, Nyakach Girls and Mathare Women. Cheche will be looking for greater composure in possession and better use of chances against an American team with considerable experience in youth international football.

The Football Kenya Federation confirmed the match schedule ahead of the tournament. Tonight’s result will determine how much is at stake in Kenya’s final group fixture.
