Rigathi Gachagua Heads to Boston as US Diaspora Tour Enters Final Phase

By Shiled Jerono | Updated October 1, 2026

Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has travelled to Boston, Massachusetts, as his extended United States tour enters its final major phase.

From Texas to Massachusetts

Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, concluded engagements in Texas before moving to Boston. His published itinerary places the Boston leg between October 1 and October 9.

The former deputy president has spent several weeks meeting Kenyans in the diaspora, political supporters and businesspeople in different US cities.

What the tour has covered

According to reports from the tour, discussions have touched on investment, jobs, healthcare, education and Kenya’s political direction. Because many of those remarks were made in political settings, they should be read as positions advanced by Gachagua and his allies rather than as independently established policy outcomes.

The political purpose is also clear

The trip has given Gachagua a platform to promote the Democracy for Citizens Party and discuss opposition cooperation before the 2027 General Election. Diaspora meetings can help politicians build networks and raise their profile, but they do not provide a measure of electoral support inside Kenya.

What happens after Boston

Once the Boston leg ends, attention will turn to his return to Kenya and how DCP positions itself in negotiations with other opposition groups. Coalition arrangements remain fluid, and no final opposition ticket has been established simply because leaders have held consultations.

Why the diaspora leg matters

Kenyan politicians increasingly use diaspora engagements to discuss investment, remittances and national politics. For readers, the useful distinction is between concrete commitments that can be verified and campaign messages that remain political proposals.

What Has Not Been Decided

The tour does not settle who will lead any opposition coalition, which parties will work together or what ticket will ultimately be presented in 2027. Those decisions remain subject to negotiations, party processes and formal nominations.
