Uncle, Aunt Arrested Over Death of 19-Year-Old Nephew in Turbo

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Turbo have arrested an uncle and aunt accused of fatally assaulting their 19-year-old nephew in Kiplombe Location, Turbo Sub-County.

The incident, which occurred on February 2, 2026, has shocked residents of Kaplelach village and raised renewed concerns about domestic violence and excessive punishment.

Body Discovered at Homestead

According to police reports, officers at Baharini Police Station received a distress call reporting that a young man had been beaten and was unresponsive at a local homestead.

Officers responded to the scene, where they found the body of Kevin Kipkorir Meli at his uncle’s compound. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel processed the area and collected exhibits believed to be linked to the incident.

The body was later moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue pending post-mortem examination.

Suspected Motive

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been accused of taking and selling dry maize from his uncle’s home.

Police allege that the suspects, identified as Phillip Kosgei and Tecla Chepchirchir, restrained the young man and physically assaulted him following the accusation.

Investigators recovered items believed to have been used during the incident as part of ongoing inquiries.

Suspects in Custody

The two suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.

Authorities have urged members of the public to seek lawful dispute resolution mechanisms and avoid taking matters into their own hands.

The case remains under active investigation.
