EPRA Mourns Silas Kandie Cheboi, Assistant Director of Compliance and Enforcement

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is mourning the loss of one of its senior officers, Silas Kandie Cheboi, who served as Assistant Director for Compliance and Enforcement (also referenced in some announcements as Surveillance and Enforcement) at the Authority. His death on August 6, 2026, has been described by colleagues and family as a profound loss to Kenya’s energy regulatory sector and to the wider community that knew him.

Who Was Silas Kandie Cheboi?

Cheboi hailed from Eldama Ravine Sub-County in Baringo County, where his family home, known as Solian, remains rooted in the community he grew up in. Over the course of his career at EPRA, he built a reputation for professionalism and integrity, playing a key role in the Authority’s enforcement of energy and petroleum sector regulations across the country.

Colleagues who worked alongside him have highlighted his dedication to EPRA’s mandate, noting that his contributions helped strengthen compliance standards within Kenya’s energy industry. Beyond his professional life, he was remembered by loved ones for his warmth, generosity, and the strong bonds he maintained with an extensive network of family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Molly Cheruto, and their two sons. He was connected to a large extended family across Baringo County and beyond, including several siblings, among them Baringo County Governor Benjamin Cheboi, as well as numerous cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews who have expressed their grief publicly since news of his passing broke.

EPRA’s Tribute

In an official statement shared through its social media channels, EPRA confirmed the passing of its long-serving officer and extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. The Authority’s message emphasized his commitment to public service and the void his absence leaves within the organization, while offering support and comfort to those grieving his loss.

Funeral Arrangements

Funeral arrangements for the late Cheboi have been ongoing across several locations, reflecting the breadth of the communities that knew him. Gatherings have been held daily at Kipevu Restaurant and at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, as well as at his family home in Solian, Eldama Ravine.

A fundraising event (harambee) took place on Wednesday, August 12, at All Saints Cathedral and Kipevu Restaurant to support the family during this period, followed by a memorial service on Thursday, August 13, at Liberty Church.

The final journey for Cheboi begins on Saturday, August 15, 2026, when his cortege is scheduled to depart from Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru en route to his family home in Solian, Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, where he will be laid to rest.

A Community in Mourning

The outpouring of tributes from EPRA staff, government officials, friends, and members of the Baringo County community underscores the impact Cheboi had both professionally and personally. As Kenya’s energy sector continues to navigate an evolving regulatory landscape, colleagues say his legacy of diligence and integrity will remain a point of reference within the Authority.

The family has requested that well-wishers who are unable to attend in person consider contributing to funeral costs through the arrangements shared by the family.

EPRA and the Cheboi family have asked mourners to keep the family in their thoughts as they navigate this difficult time.
