A Kenyan man is currently fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Dubai, just days after securing a job that had promised a better future for him and his family.
According to Faith Maina, who shared the story on the Kalenjins Abroad platform, the man identified as Kevin Kimutai had recently travelled to Dubai after securing employment with Alkhayat.
Maina revealed that Kimutai came from a humble background and had taken a loan to facilitate his travel abroad in search of greener pastures. At the time of his departure, he was reportedly in good health and had never suffered any serious illness.
However, shortly after reporting to work, his condition suddenly changed.
“He just started becoming silent and withdrawn, and his body began swelling unexpectedly,” Maina shared in her post.
Sudden Illness
Kimutai’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his admission to the ICU, where he remains under close medical care.
The development has left his family devastated, especially considering he had not yet started repaying the loan he took to travel.
Employer’s Response
His employer, Alkhayat, has reportedly committed to covering 80% of the hospital bill. However, the remaining 20% must be paid by Kimutai’s family.
The company has also indicated that once he recovers, his contract may be terminated and he could be sent back to Kenya.
Appeal for Support
Maina has now made an emotional appeal to well-wishers to stand with Kimutai and his family during this difficult time.
“My people… the company is paying 80% of the medical bill, but the remaining 20% is on him, and the family has nothing,” she said.
She added that the family has given consent for the appeal to be made public and called on Kenyans to support the young man if the hospital bill rises further, noting that he is still in critical condition.
A Dream Interrupted
Kimutai’s story reflects the struggles many young Kenyans face as they seek opportunities abroad, often taking huge financial risks in hopes of transforming their lives and supporting their families.
For now, his family and friends remain hopeful that he will recover and overcome this unexpected setback.
