Kenya Passport Application Checklist 2026: Documents to Prepare Before Your Appointment

By Kelvin Kibet | October 1, 2026

A missing original document can turn a passport appointment into an unnecessary second trip. Before attending your appointment, compare what you have with the Directorate of Immigration Services’ current requirements.

First-Time Adult Applicants

Immigration lists a completed Form 19 and payment invoices, an original birth certificate and copy for citizens by birth, and the applicant’s original national identity card and copy among the key requirements.

The Directorate also lists copies of parents’ identity documents and parents’ birth certificates, plus any additional documentation that may be requested.

Replacing an Existing Passport

For a standard replacement, Immigration lists Form 19, payment invoices, the applicant’s original ID and copy, the previous passport and a copy, together with the prescribed fee.

For Minors

Applications for minors require a duly completed consent form and supporting parental documents. Requirements can vary depending on the child’s circumstances, so parents should confirm the current checklist before the appointment.

Before You Leave Home

  • Carry originals and the required photocopies.
  • Check names and dates of birth for consistency across documents.
  • Bring your payment confirmation and application paperwork.
  • Keep digital copies of important documents for your own records.
  • Use only official government channels for application instructions.

Check Your Names Before the Appointment

Differences in spelling, order of names or dates of birth across an ID card, birth certificate and other records can delay processing. If your documents contain an inconsistency, confirm with Immigration which supporting document is required before attending the appointment.

Lost or Damaged Passports Need Different Supporting Documents

A replacement for an expired passport is not handled in exactly the same way as a lost or damaged passport. Immigration publishes separate requirements for different circumstances, so applicants should use the checklist that matches their case rather than assuming the standard replacement list applies.

Avoid Paying Unofficial Agents

Passport applications should be handled through official government channels. Be cautious with people who promise faster processing in exchange for cash or ask you to send identity documents through informal messaging accounts.

A Practical Folder to Carry

Keep originals in one section, photocopies in another and your application/payment documents at the front. This simple preparation makes it easier to respond when an officer asks for a specific document and reduces the risk of leaving an original behind.
