Eldoret Nurse Doris Murei Shot Dead; Officer Ordered for Mental Assessment
Doris Murei, a 45-year-old nurse, was shot dead at the General Service Unit mess compound near Eldoret State Lodge on August 30, 2026. Police reports cited by The Standard said Constable Nathan Kirwa was suspected of shooting her and fled the scene. Kirwa was later arrested and brought before court.
Early reports described the incident as a possible relationship dispute. The motive has not been established by a court, so this report does not present “love triangle” claims as fact.
Court update
On September 1, Eldoret Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga allowed detectives 21 days to hold Kirwa while they completed investigations, according to the Kenya News Agency and The Star. A September 23 report said a court then directed that he undergo a mental assessment before taking a plea. That is a procedural step; it is not a finding of guilt or a final determination of fitness to stand trial.
The investigation and court process should establish the facts. Kirwa is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
