Babu Owino Says His MP Record Supports Nairobi Governor Bid in 2027
By Shiled Jerono | Updated October 1, 2026
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is building his case for the Nairobi governorship around his record as a constituency legislator, arguing that the experience of managing public programmes in Embakasi East prepares him for county leadership.
The argument Babu Owino is making
In a recent interview, Owino said voters should judge his gubernatorial ambition against what he says he has delivered in Embakasi East. He has pointed to roads, school support and other constituency projects as evidence of his ability to manage a larger public office.
Those are political claims made by the MP and should be assessed against public records, audits and service-delivery data rather than accepted solely as campaign statements.
Linda Mwananchi has backed his Nairobi bid
At a September leadership retreat, Linda Mwananchi leaders said they would support Owino for Nairobi governor through The Mwananchi Party. The same group named Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its preferred presidential candidate.
The field is still taking shape
Owino is not the only politician positioning for the Nairobi contest. Other names have also been discussed publicly, while incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja is expected to defend his record. Formal party nominations and the final list of candidates remain future steps.
One-term pledge adds another political claim
Owino has also said that, if elected governor in 2027, he would serve one term before pursuing the presidency in 2032. That statement describes his stated political plan; it is not a binding legal condition and does not determine how voters will respond.
What matters before 2027
The next stages include party registration and nomination arrangements, coalition decisions and scrutiny of candidates’ records. For Nairobi voters, the substantive issues are likely to include county finances, roads, waste management, health services, planning and accountability.
