Access Bank Kenya–National Bank Transfer: Customers Should Keep Current Channels for Now
Customers of Access Bank (Kenya) and National Bank of Kenya should continue using their existing accounts, cards, loan arrangements and digital-banking channels for now. CBK approved the transfer of Access Bank Kenya’s business, assets and liabilities to National Bank, but the banks say the transfer will take effect only after the transaction and required regulatory, governance and operational steps are complete.
What the approval means
The Central Bank of Kenya announced the approval on September 23, 2026. It is a transfer of business and liabilities, not an instruction for customers to immediately open new accounts or change payment details.
National Bank’s customer update says Access Bank Kenya and National Bank will continue as separate operating entities until the transfer takes effect. Customers should keep using their current account numbers, cards, repayment instructions, mobile and internet banking and branch contacts.
What customers should do
- Continue normal banking through your existing official channels.
- Wait for direct notice from your bank before changing account details or payment instructions.
- Verify any migration message through the bank’s published contact channels.
- Never share your PIN, password or one-time password with someone claiming to help with the transfer.
- Keep meeting loan repayments unless the bank gives verified instructions changing the payment method.
