NCIC Warns Against Disrupting Political Meetings Ahead of 2027 Election

NAIROBI, October 23, 2026 — The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has called on political leaders to stop the disruption of opponents’ meetings as campaigning and party activity increase ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

In remarks reported by Kenya Broadcasting Corporation on Friday, the commission urged leaders to exercise restraint and warned against hiring groups to interfere with political gatherings. The appeal comes as parties organise meetings and prospective candidates step up public engagements.

Right to peaceful political activity

Kenya’s Constitution protects freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. Politicians and supporters can disagree strongly without resorting to intimidation, threats or violence. Anyone who alleges a criminal disruption should provide evidence to the relevant authorities so that responsibility can be established through lawful investigation.

NCIC’s intervention reflects concern that confrontations at political events can inflame local tensions long before voters go to the polls. Preventing violence requires cooperation among organisers, security agencies and community leaders, including when rival political meetings are held in the same area.

Accountability remains essential

Political parties can help by instructing their supporters not to interfere with rival events and by reporting credible threats early. Police have a duty to protect lawful assemblies without favouring one party over another. Authorities should assess specific complaints on their evidence rather than treating allegations against political opponents as proved facts.

No individual incident is established by the commission’s general warning alone. Daily Report KE will report verified cases separately as more information becomes available.
